SELLER DESCRIPTION

This racer was designed by Rod Johnstone and built of fiberglass and balsa core in 1991 by TPI in Portsmouth, R.I. The J/39 was a semi-custom yacht, originally designed for the IMS Grand Prix racing circuit. She is Hull #3 of approximately 20 that were built from 1991 to 1993. In her racing debut, she won her IMS Class in Key West Race Week in 1992 and was named "Boat of the Week". Later she has raced PHRF in Long Island Sound and in 1995 won the Gitana Trophy awarded by the YRA to the boat having the best overall record for the season. The J/39's overall dimensions, its carbon fiber rig, interior and other specifications are very similar to the current J/120 except that it is a masthead rigged boat which uses regular spinnakers and pole instead of an asymmetrical spinnaker on a retractable sprit pole; and, it has a racing two grooved headstay foil in lieu of furling headsails. This model of the J/39 has the larger, racing style cockpit, yet like the J/120, it does have an enclosed stern and wheel steering. The interior is typical for J Boats with white bulkheads, chrome grab rails and varnished teak trim. The yacht was modified in 2000/2001 to improve the cruising accommodations by installing an owner's double berth forward, an extra long quarterberth aft and it was converted from the original tiller to J/120 wheel steering. She is a very good looking, well maintained yacht and is an ideal dual purpose boat for a club level racer who also wants to cruise fast and comfortably with family and friends. Most recently in 2001 with the current owner, she has won the Mayor's Cup, the Breakwater Irregular's Spring Series, the Stamford Yacht Club Saturday Series and the SYC Naiad Trophy for the best overall score of a Division 1 boat for the entire season.Call Rob Lager at 516-767-0141 for further information.
