Catalina 30 The perfect family cruiser!!!That is a design criterion that has helped to make the Catalina 30 one of the best selling boats in today s market. Consider that you could combine the production of ten of the most popular 30' model sailboats built in the US over the last 25 years and still not approach the number of Catalina 30s built. A combination of wide beam, a good ballast/displacement ratio of .42, and a relatively low sail area/displacement ratio of 15.1 combine to make the Catalina 30 a very stiff boat under sail. Like all Catalina Yacht offerings, the 30 was sold with a complete cruise package that outfitted them for comfortable cruising right from the start. Her fin keel coupled with a modern underbody provides good performance, with an overall feeling of safety. All halyards and sheets are led aft to the cockpit for complete ease of use for a shorthanded crew. The jib has roller furling and the traveler is well out of the way. The end result is a boat that is easily handled by one person. The well-appointed cabin has accommodations for 7 in full adult berths. The wide-open salon area feels more like a 34 boat. Privacy for the family is accomplished via a nice Vee berth at the bow and a spacious double bunk that is well aft and private. The dinette converts to sleep 2 and the stbd settee sleeps one more. Reverse cycle A/C assures comfort all year long. The complete galley has a 2-burner stove with oven; propane grill and H/C pressure water. The stand up head has a shower, sink and all amenities. A diesel engine, wheel steering, full electronics, and autopilot assure the owner of safe enjoyable passages. Star Chaser is very unusual with her electric windlass and 100 of SS chain.
