The Catalina 38 is a swift and graceful sailing yacht for the skipper who appreciates superlative performance and handling, and demands comfort and safety. From her graceful lines to her spacious interior, "Persistence" represents Catalina quality and value. With a little TLC this could be one very nice fast sailboat. Perfect for racing on Wednesday nights or cruising the sound.The original boat was designed by the legendary Sparkman & Stephens, and was to be an offshore racing design. The hull form was purchased by the Yankee Boat Company in Marina Del Rey, California. Approximately 30 "Yankee 38's" were built before the company failed. Frank Butler of Catalina Yachts purchased the molds from Yankee, and started to build a "Catalina" version. With a taller rig, shorter boom, and spade rudder design for faster tacking and better balance.
