1944 Welin Davit Boat Converted steel lifeboat, Welin Davit Boat Co. Ltd. Converted steel lifeboat. Boat Name: Unique Relic. Rebuilt from the keel up in 2005, this extraordinary and unique vessel had her keel originally laid in the UK in 1944 as a steel lifeboat designed to hold 77 people. Converted to a cutter rigged pilot house motor sailor she has been from England to the South Seas and sailed to San Diego in the late 80's. Bought by the present owners in 2001, she has been completely rebuilt with a full refurbishing of the steel hull in 2005 and a rebuilt diesel engine. Fiberglass covers her teak cabin structure and topsides. The boat is fully loaded with everything a cruising sailor could want - including wind generator, solar panel, mast steps, roller furling foresails, autopilot, water maker, hoisting system, dinghy davits, anchor windlasses bow and stern, Lazy Jacks - etc. etc. etc. This boat must be seen to be believed. Accomodations:
The stout teak from which the cabin is built is clearly apparent in the fore peak. Forward in the peak is a roomy V berth. Next aft to starboard is the enclosed head with sink, hot and cold pressure water and shower. Opposite to port is a hanging locker and drawers for storage. The main cabin has a settee berth to starboard that pulls out to make a double. Opposite is the galley with cannister propane two burner stove and grill, stainless steel sink, ac/dc refrigerator, and trash compactor. Aft is the pilot house with seat and helm to port and a second seat and nav station to starboard.
