1926 ALDEN R-Boat, "Vitesse" was designed by John R. Alden and built to the highest standards by Lawley in 1926. She had a successful racing career in the great lakes and later on Long Island Sound. A complete rebuilding project was begun by her current owner s in the late 1990 s: she has been almost completely replanked (double planked), reframed, new deck and deck bems have been installed, tapered aluminum mast was also added. The owner s serious illness now forces a sale of "Vitesses" before the rebuild/restoration is complete; the heavy work has been done but the interior, rigging, refinishing remain to be completed. A new owner could pick up the ball from here and finish this elegant classic to his specifications, all at a reasonable cost.
